Thirsties Duo Diaper Review and Giveaway!

I was so excited to be able to review something from Thirsties! I was lucky enough to received a Thirsties Duo Diaper, which I must say I love using on my daughter. I had heard so many great things about them from so many of the cloth diapering mama’s that I know, I just needed to try one. I love that this company is all US made and that Work at home moms are the ones producing these great diapers. It really makes me want to buy more because I know I am supporting these families! The diapers  are wonderfully made and there were a couple things that I especially loved.

Color/Patterns-For Emmie I got the Alice Brights pattern. I love it. Cute online and even cuter in person. I’m was also pleasantly surprised by the colors they had. All of them were very pretty and bright. For the Duo Wrap there are eight solid colors and for prints. I can’t wait to have another baby and need to buy a couple more of these. I want at least four of the colors below. So freaking cute!

Size System-This is always a biggie for me. Let me just give you a reference of how we went through clothes with Emmie. She went from 12mo to 3t! Seriously. She just got gigantic over night. Most of it was her legs. She has huge legs and because of that, it is very hard to find a diaper that doesn’t dig in and leave marks but also doesn’t leak because it is too big. We have this problem with a lot of one size diapers. I love that this is a two size system. Size one fits kids 6lbs- 18lbs and size two is 18lbs-40lbs! I also love that each size diaper has a three snap rise system for the perfect fit at 18lbs and at 40lbs. It makes life a little easier not really having to worry about small, medium, and large diapers that you may have to sell to fund a new stash.

Front and Back Pocket- This is so nice. I used to love pocket diapers…..Until I got sick of pulling wet inserts out before washing. It is why with out other diapers we use the prefold/wrap set up. With this I just put it in the pail liner and it comes out clean. No touching the insert, not dealing with dirty inserts. It’s great!

Leg Gussets-Probably my favorite feature! Seriously! The gussets are so nice. It really does give that extra protection. Let me say that most cloth families don’t deal with poop out the side but this one does! My daughter knows just how to poop of the side of her diapers. I swear she does it on purpose. Anyway with these diapers I not had one blow out. We have been using it for well over 3 weeks now and not once have we had a problem.

The little chubs lovers her new diaper, as you can see above. These diapers are great seriously and with so many Retailers it is easy to find them near you. Also Thirsties has a free catalog that you can order. It tells you all about their diapers and will help you figure out what you will need and want for your family! You can purchase a Thirsties Duo Diaper for $18.50 solids -$19.50 for prints from the fine Retailers list OR You can enter to win one here!!!!

Tips for Saving money with a family vacation

As a young family, you can imagine that we enjoy not being home. In the next year we have at least two vacations that we would like to take. Both vacations are to bigger resorts or themed hotels. Both vacations would end up costing a lot if it weren’t for a few simple things that we’re going to do to slim down the cost.

1. Look for deals- This is essential. When you know where you want to go, look at the hotels page. Sometimes they have awesome deals. This isn’t always true though. Also most resorts send out coupons or have good deals.

2.Budget-Pick you budget and stick with it. You can have a great vacation on a small budget but you have to stick with it. Vacations are supposed to be relaxing and having to worry about extra money you may have spent is no fun.

3.Find out when Peak season is-Finding out when peak season is great because you can plan around it. Our upcoming vacation is has a peak season of Christmas, Summer and Spring break. That being the case we’re going in about October.

4.Fly or Drive- Which will you be doing? It used to be that flying, for the most part was more expensive but with the way gas prices are now and the awesome deals you can get for a round trip ticket are pretty awesome. Just make sure because the extra money either way could be used for something fun while at your vacation site.

5.Check Travel Sites- If you need a hotel, flight and/or rental car check the travel sites. You can usually get a hotel room for much cheaper than advertised.

6.Book things together- If you using travel sites then book together. I know a woman who got 3 round trip flights, 6 nights at a hotel and a rental for less than a 1000 using the option of booking together!

7.Book early but not TOO early- This summer I will be going on a trip child and husband free. I’ve already started looking at flights but I know that booking about 5 months in advance is way to early. Prices are still pretty high. I’ve found that usually 2 months in advance is pretty good.

8.Rewards? Use them!- If you already have rewards points that can get you something use them. Whether is be flight miles or credit card points that can be redeemed for a check, use it. Even if it pays for one thing that is one less thing you have worry about!

9.Local Shopping-If you have a hotel room that allows it, Buy your own food. Eating out is so expensive. Sure eat out a couple times because after all it is a vacation but limit it so you can spend more in other area’s if you have or want to.

10.Plan your activities- This is where we fault a lot. We spend way more money than we intend because we just plan the things like hotel and flight. We usually forget about the during. But don’t get bent out of shape is everything doesn’t go as planned. Life happens.

There are so many ways to save money now a days when it comes to family vacations. Everyone want you so come to their location and they are willing to give you some pretty stellar discounts. It just takes some searching on your part. The above tips have helped us when it comes to planning our upcoming family vacations.

The Little Things That Count

It always shocks me that the smallest things may make someones day or even week. There are a couple of things that we enjoy doing that can help other out. One of the things on the top of my to do list is donating the MOUND of clothing we have that our children can no longer fit into. We have a place here called Care net that takes tons of baby items that I would also like to contribute to. Another thing I would like to set up is taking my nieces and nephew for a night so my sister and her husband can get out together.

When my son was young I had no clue what we were going to do with all the baby clothing we received at his baby shower. Sure I kept some of those cherished pieces but I still has SO much. With the addition of our daughter a little over a year later, the tubs just kept piling up. To see how many clothes we one actually kind of makes me sick. Later this month, once their all washed and folded, I plan to take the majority to Good Will. I love good will for the fact that all of their items are cheap but the condition of the clothes are wonderful. There is also a place here that helps Low income mothers. They accept all sorts of baby things, especially diapers. I’ve been told that diapers are usually the first thing in their inventory to need replenishing. I think that its a great program and it’s nice to know there is help for mom to be in need!

The other thing I would love to do is for my sister. She works so hard. Right now she is on her last three months of Nursing school. As hard as that is on its own she has three children. She  has a daughter with special needs, a two year old and she just had my nephew about a week ago. If anyone needs a break I know she sure does. I would love to have a night where we take all the kids for her. What ever she wants to do with that night whether it be study, go out or just hit the hay early. She is such an inspiration. I know that one night child free could help with the stress, even if just for the night.

There are so many things that can be done. Even if its something as small as giving someone with kids a night our or donating old clothes, you never know what it can do. Those little things could have wonderful life long memories for that person or family. To that you’re the reason for that special little moment is truly heart warming.

Improvements in the new year!

This year there is so much I wish to improve on. I mean where to start. I would love to be able to stick to a budget better this year. We always seem to come up short. I would also love to be able to eat home cooked more often. Being a stay at home mom it should be easy but I have such a difficult time coming up with new and fresh things!

This year to keep money better in check there are a few steps we need to follow. First and foremost we have to see where we spend it all. I mean honestly I dont know why at the end of the month we are shocked and broke. Another step we will have to take is to STICK TO THE BUDGET. We frequently spend money here and there but really it adds up fast! Lastly I would really like to put some money away for the family events that the kids would truly love. I’m sure our eating out habits don’t help the dwindling budget at the end of the month!

When is comes to cooking I have never really been fantastic. I can make eggs and simple stuff but that’s about it. If its too complicated I just want to quit and forget all about it. This year though I want to find new recipes and ways to use left over meat. It seems to be hard to find something everyone will sit down and eat but I know it has to be out there. I know another problem I seem to have is I just don’t want to get up and do it. I’m a little lazy so that has to change as well. If I’m not willing to cook, it wont get done. Its just one vicious cycle!

There are so many thinks I could think of and do this year but these two are my biggies. Eating it would help us financially and health wise. When you eat crap food, you feel like crap. It just goes round and round for us. When it comes to the finances we have to be on top of it. These last couple of months have been the best but I know this year, if we buckle down we can get it done. It would be great to have extra money so we could do those little things with the kids that make childhood memories!

Me As A Mommy Hand Painted Canvas ABE Spotlight

At the beginning of December I started thinking about what I wanted to do for the special adults in our lives. I kept seeing these gorgeous canvases with pictures on them but I wanted something a little different. Something that was going to POP the instant you saw it! I was talking to my friend Beth over at the “Me As A Mommy” blog. She told me she had and idea for me. It turned out to be AMAZING!!

She asked me to send her the photos I would have wanted, which I gladly said sure to! She edited them down to a beautiful basic black and white pictures. She then told me she could hand paint the photos onto a 12×12 or 11×14 canvas for me. I was so excited! I finally found those unique gifts we were looking for! Also she was able to add a cute touch of color to each for me for just $25 extra per picture! And the prices was so reasonable that we had 3 done! For the two 12×12 and one 11×14 it was a grand total of $375! I mean really it was a steal considering that basic pictures are like 70 bucks for 12×12. We really wanted something different and Beths work didn’t disappoint. EVERYONE LOVED THEM! We got so many compliments on our gift choices it was insane!

Beth can also do bigger canvases you just have to email her for pricing over at MeAsAMommy@gmail.com. The starting price is $100 per canvas and that is with a 12×12 or a 11×14 sized canvas. A touch of color like the pictures below are only an additional $25 and shipping is INCLUDED!! For my readers Beth was sweet enough to give 15% off. Just tell her the Baby Birthing Mama sent you!

The Winner of my ABE Package is going to Receive their choice(Beth can tell you which will be best with your photo) of 12×12 or 11×14 canvas with a touch of color!!!

Stones of Healing ABE Sponsor Spotlight

When I started thinking about what I wanted to offer for my ABE package I knew I wanted something natural for babies and something I would have loved to have. I immediately started looking for a natural wooden teething ring. Simple, unisex and perfect! I found a couple of different places that offered them on etsy but they didn’t seem to be a company for me. And then I found the Stones Of Healing etsy shop. I messaged Cara quickly because I knew I had found the right place.

Not only does Cara, owner of Stones of Healing, offer natural wooden teething rings and teething necklaces, but she also offers nursing necklaces and many other types of Jewelry. I am particularly found all the nursing necklaces she makes. While I was unable to breastfeed my little ones, one of these would have been helpful anyway because of the baby wearing we did when that were smaller! They are visually stunning as well so its not like they couldn’t be worn out and about!

Another great thing Stones Of Healing has is beautiful Jewelry, in which the stones hold healing properties. Cara has a page on her website specifically dedicated to telling customers what stones hold what properties. I find that helpful as a mama to a son with eczema since some stones are said to also carry healing health benefits. Also its wonderful because Stones of Healing does Custom orders.

Stones of Healing is generously giving the winner of my ABE package one of her ever so popular teething necklaces!

Eco Sprout Detergent ABE Spotlight Post

I follow a lot of cloth diapering companies on facebook and twitter. About a month ago one of them started promoting this new detergent. I figured “Hey why not”! We always have to wash our diapers at least twice because they STILL stink before they are finished! It really wasn’t practical since we live in an apartment. We were spending as much money washing as we would’ve been buying disposables.

Eco Sprout Detergent was lovely enough to send out samples so they could show mama’s how fantastic they were. They didn’t disappoint in this household. We did the long soak to get any build up out and then washes as normal. The only difference was that one wash did it. It got rid of the awful stink and made my diapers feel super soft to the touch. They were perfect after that first wash.

Eco Sprout also features an array of scents for every mama. They have four regular scents, one fragrance free and a featured scent of the season. How great is that? This season its cinnamon sticks and while I haven’t tried it yet I am in love with every scent Ive tried. Although I enjoy them all, Warm Vanilla Sugar and Sandalwood Vanilla are by far my favorites. But hey I’m a vanilla loving girl so go figure!!

Eco Sprout Detergent has generously offered two 24 oz bags of your choice smell to the winner of my Baby giveaway that starts tomorrow!

GoGreen Pocket Diaper Spotlight ABE Post

I was turned on to GoGreen Pocket diapers about two months ago from a fellow blogging mama! I was even lucky enough to be able to review and giveaway one of their rocking diapers! When I started looking around for the diaper I wanted to review I noticed that Leah, the owner of GoGreen Pocket Diapers, had so many stellar colors and prints! I chose a wonderful star print.

These diapers are seriously amazing. They range from $8.99-$9.99 for the standard pocket diaper and insert! GoGreen Pocket Diapers also has recently come out with a diaper that is a little more expensive but WELL worth it! Its called the Champ. It comes in a a few different prints and colors. Also it features a double pocket(one in the front and one in the back). The champ is great because you can SNAP in the inserts and they will come out during the wash but stay attached to the diaper, all while getting clean. The Champ is only 14.95 regularly but most of them are discounted 15% to 12.69 a piece! Its a steal!!!

Recently Leah has added cloth wipes and wet bags to her inventory. The GoGreen Pocket Diapers wet/dry bags are great because they have two zippered compartments, One for Clean diaper and one for dirty diapers. Personally I cant think of anything cooler in a wet bag! These bad boy are great! GoGreen Pocket Diapers wipes come in 15, 25, and 50 packs. All are made of double layer cotton knit and have low prices. You can buy the 50 pack for $18.95. You cant beat it.

GoGreen Pocket Diapers has generously offered one standard diaper of your choice, 20 wipes and a wet bag! This is around a $25 value!
